Our specialty, Remedial Massage, involves the manipulation of body muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments to relieve pain and injury. When muscles and tendons become damaged or impaired, knotted and tense or immobile, Remedial Massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or superficial. Remedial massage holistically treats the body healing both the cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms.
Remedial Massage is an excellent therapy for muscular tension or injury from from stress, poor posture or any prolonged or repetitive activity including breast feeding and over-work! It is often used effectively in the treatment of arthritis, frozen shoulder, muscular cramps, whiplash, fibrositis, spondylitis, muscular atrophy and sports injuries.
Remedial Massage incorporates a variety of specialized techniques to locate and repair damage and to support and speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms.
Our multi-skilled Remedial Massage Specialists will tailor your massage to address your particular requirements using a combination of the following techniques.
- Swedish Massage
- Trigger point Therapy
- Deep tissue
- Myofascial release
- PNF Stretching
Stress is one of the biggest contributors to disease in Australia. Nearly 3/4 of Australians report that stress affects their physical health(1). Stress triggers the flight-fight response, activating the sympathetic nervous system, in turn stimulating the adrenal glands and triggering the release of adrenaline. This results in an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate. Chronic stress is a known contributing factor in heart disease and other chronic illnesses. Stress also lowers immunity and increases recovery time from injury.
In our remedial relaxation massages, an aromatherapy relaxation oil is used and remedial massage techniques are employed to relax the muscles and calm the nervous system, thereby aiding in reversing the stress response. Massage also prompts the release of endorphins, the brain chemicals that produce feelings of well-being, leaving the client with a feeling of deep relaxation and calm.
Enjoy your relaxation massage. You don’t just deserve it, you need it!
Remedial techniques are used specifically for pre and post event treatment to help prevent injury, repair damage and speed recovery. The treatment will usually include PNF stretching.
With extensive body changes and extra tension in the muscular skeletal system, caused by hormones and a shift in your centre of gravity, regular massage often makes for a much more comfortable and enjoyable pregnancy.
Massage is beneficial at all stages of pregnancy from 0 to 40+ weeks. Please let us know on booking how many weeks pregnant you are. A consent form is required to be signed before a treatment within the first 13 weeks.
Post natal massage improves the health and wellbeing of a new mum by promoting relaxation, relieving anxiety and having a positive effect on postpartum blues. The demands on the mother, particularly with breastfeeding, can cause strain on the upper back neck and shoulders.
A combination of remedial and Swedish massage incorporating the use of heated smooth flat stones placed on key points of the body and used with oil to massage the body. The combination of the heat from the stones and massage gets deep into the muscles inducing a deeply relaxing effect. 1 ½ hours is recommended.
Trans-dermal (through the skin) magnesium therapy has shown to be effective as it is absorbed straight into the body’s cells and tissues and raises magnesium levels in the body over a shorter amount of time. Trans-dermal magnesium massage enhances tissue recovery, reduces pain, improves tendon and ligament flexibility and helps break down inflammation therefore easing muscle cramps and spasms.
In sport, most athletes are lovers of magnesium as it helps their bodies recover faster after a game or injury.
Magnesium oil also has the effect of calming the nervous system and promoting relaxation of the muscles
Dry needling is an effective technique for the treatment of muscular pain by relaxing overactive muscles. The practice of ‘dry needling’ involves inserting an acupuncture needle into a trigger point and is typically used to treat the pain associated with injuries or muscular pain.
In comparison to acupuncture, dry needling is strictly based on Western medicine principles and research and it is increasingly used in the management of musculoskeletal and sports injuries.
Dry needling can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal problems. Such conditions include, but are not limited to:
- Shoulder pain (rotator cuff pathology)
- Arm pain (tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel)
- Buttock, groin, hip and leg pain (sciatica, hamstrings strains, calf tightness/spasms)
- Knee pain (osteoarthritis)
